But for me, this image holds more than aesthetic beauty. Manhattan Beach has been a constant through my years in California. It was the first place I visited on my first trip out west—the spot where I stood, photographed this very pier, and knew I had to move here. Over the years, I returned to this beach countless times, photographing it in every kind of light and mood. No matter how many new places I explored, this was where I always came back—especially during creative ruts, when I needed to feel inspired again.
This particular frame is one I always return to. It reminds me of beginnings, of grounding moments, and of why I fell in love with photography in the first place. I know I’ll revisit this pier every time I’m back in California. It’s a place that will always carry a certain nostalgia for me—and I hope a bit of that feeling comes through in this photograph.
