Alone At The Wedge

“Alone at the Wedge” - Where chaos meets solitude, a private dance with the Wedge. During my five years in California, the Wedge in Newport Beach always held a certain magnetic pull. Known for its massive, unpredictable shore break, it’s a place where only the bold dare to surf. A few times a year, when conditions line up just right, the waves explode to 15–25 feet—beautiful, brutal, and dangerously shallow, with only a few feet between you and the sand if you fall. This photo was taken on one of those rare, perfect late afternoons. The crowds had thinned, the light was golden, and one lone surfer had the lineup to himself. I caught him mid-run, racing back to get into position for another wave. It’s not often the Wedge looks this peaceful—this was one of those fleeting, unforgettable moments.
