Week of 3/10/25: First Roll of Film w/ The Barnack Leica IIIc

Updated: Apr 11

Nothing like a new camera to reignite your excitement for photography. I was originally going to the camera store to develop a roll of Portra 400 120 film that had been in my camera for some time, which I just finished the day before. The one thing about 120 film, though a beautiful film format, is that it is very expensive and not that practical. Walking past the used film camera section, the Leica IIIc caught my eye. I contemplated buying it and ended up with a new camera five minutes later. Major impulse purchase. Do I regret buying it? Nope, not at all. This past week I found myself bringing the camera everywhere I went, including my walk to work, and started to observe the city in a different way. Photography has not brought me this much joy in a while, and nothing like a camera from the 1950s with no light meter to jumpstart the passion again. I have shot mostly landscapes and cityscapes in the past, but this camera has expanded the breadth of subjects I find worthy of capturing.
